Where a record starts

Cut in copper. Played in walnut.

Every record begins as a disc on a cutting lathe: a stylus carves the sound into one long spiral. The One is built to read that spiral back the way it was cut, at a steady 33⅓, with nothing loose to blur it.

How it is made

Three parts, nothing else.

Plinth

01

Solid walnut, 40 mm thick, oiled by hand. Heavy enough that a footstep in the room never reaches the needle.

Platter

02

Cast aluminium, machined flat, 1.8 kg. Once it is turning, its own weight keeps it turning evenly.

Tonearm

03

A nine-inch carbon arm with a moving-magnet cartridge, set up before it leaves Porto. Lower it and listen.

Setting up

Ten minutes from the box to side A.

The belt, the counterweight and the cartridge come set for each other. Four moves, a record, and you are listening.

Plays everything on your shelf.

33⅓ for albums, 45 for singles. Turn the dial on the corner and the belt moves itself.

Questions

Before you order.

Do I need a phono stage?

+

No. A switch underneath sends a line-level signal, so it plugs straight into powered speakers. Set it to phono if your amplifier has its own stage.

How long does delivery take?

+

Each One is set up and played in Porto before it ships: about two weeks in Europe, delivery included.

Can I change the cartridge?

+

Yes. The arm takes any standard half-inch cartridge, and the counterweight has the range for most of them.

What if something breaks?

+

Five years of warranty on parts and labour. The belt is a standard size, and a spare comes in the box.
